The top sugar beet growers in the region have been announced for the 2011 harvest.
Grower organizations across the region recently held their annual banquets and handed out awards to the top growers.
For the Coaldale growers Vucurevich Farms topped the list with 26.14 adjusted tonnes per acre, followed by Jeremy Kreft with 25.36, Gary Tokariuk with 24.89, Wayne Oostenbrug with 24.78 and John Kreft with 24.27.
For the Tempest growers Lievaart Farms was in first place with 25.64, Eric Giesbrecht with 24.36, Allen Klassen with 24.12, Alan Vaselenak with 23.78 and rounding out the top five was Brian Vaselenak with 23.54.
The top five Picture Butte growers were led by Loman Farms with 25.76, BH Farms was next with 23.28 followed by Bergen Farms with 23.02 tied with Danny Ponjavic and Darren Van Zeggelaar finished off the top five with 22.67.
This year awards were also presented to the growers who received over 20 per cent sugar and more than 20 tonnes per acre.
Leading the list was Dwight Perry with 21.47 tonnes at 20.38 per cent sugar. Second was Martin Van Waes at 20.56 tonnes with 20.27 per cent sugar. Lievaart Farms had 25.64 tonnes with 20.38 per cent sugar followed by John Loman with 22.54 tonnes with 20.01 per cent sugar and finally John Hubert/Roland Petker with 20.88 tonnes with 20.18 per cent sugar.
