Lethbridge Northern 4H Beef Club members once again entered the show ring last week for their annual competition.
Each year the first week in June heralds the annual show and sale, held the last two years in Diamond City due to the North County Recreation Complex in Picture Butte being unavailable.
The complex was a construction zone last year and this year a spring hockey season delayed the removal of the ice.
At last Wednesday’s show and sale, Ryan Konynenbelt showed the Grand Champion which later sold at auction to Masterfeeds for $2.40 a pound.
The Reserve Grand Champion was shown by Nathan Pelleboer and sold to WA Vet Services for $2 a pound.
In the Junior division Pelleboer also took first in the Quality judging with Niki Groenenboom in second place.
For Showmanship Isabella Ramsden was first and Cheyenne Groenenboom in second. Niki Groenenboom took an honourable mention.
In the Intermediate division Ryan Konynenbelt was first in Quality with Brendan Konynenbelt in second. In Showmanship Colby Smith was first with Brendan Konynenbelt second.
In the Senior division Deborah Pelleboer was first in Quality with Carson Stronks in second.
For Showmanship Deborah Pelleboer was first and Darian Ramsden in second.
Deborah Pelleboer also captured the overall showmanship title with Colby Smith in second.
Daniel Pelleboer captured the Rate of Gain first place with 4.11 lbs. per day followed by Brendan Konynenbelt in second and Shelby Groenenboom in third.
The average selling price for the day was $1.73 per pound with 34 steers sold.
The club’s Charity Calf was also sold for $1.60 a pound to Ed Stronks and Leighton Kolk who then donated it back to the auction where it was sold again at $1.30 per pound to Earl Dunn Livestock.
In total the Charity Calf auction generated $3,978.80 with the proceeds going to the North County Interfaith Food Bank and the Humane Society of Lethbridge.
By the end of the day the club members were very appreciative of the support they received from the buyers who continue to support the annual show and sale.
