Editor, the News; This is in response and support for the Coaldale bus driver who is concerned for the safety or her passengers, our children. It is extremely frustrating when drivers blatantly ignore or smile, wave and carry on through when our red lights are activated. I don’t think it matters how many years you have drive, it is still a frustration. I talked to a driver who has driven for 18 years and it still frustrates her. Amazing how many of these people are from your own neighbourhood and community. Have drivers, Class 1 to 5, become so careless/ignorant or has our life become such a panic, that we can’t stop for the 15 to 20 seconds it takes to load or unload the children? We as bus drivers have a great responsibility for safely transporting our passengers to and from school as they are everyone else’s children. I drive a bus with 52 passengers and one handicapped child. These children are someone’s sons and daughters. Someone’s grandchildren. Someone’s nieces or nephews. And maybe one day your own. Please for the safety of everyone, stop for our buses, our children. It’s also the law. Thank-you. Peggy Van Essen PICTURE BUTTE |
