Editor, the News; I see by the sports news that Sidney Crosby is once again on the injured list, and could be out of action for some time. It’s disgusting how teams hire a goon, who is big and strong and can over-power a talented player like Crosby. The usual end result is that the offending team has a better chance of making the playoffs. The practice is privately criticized by some players, but unfortunately condoned by many fans. Head injuries have become more frequent, so the NHL is revising penalty regulations in an attempt to deal with the issue. In most cases, the victim has his head down while controlling the puck, and doesn’t see his assailant approaching. I hope these odious incidents will desist, but I’m not holding my breath. In the meantime, I shall continue to enjoy women’s hockey. Michael Plul COALDALE |
