For the eighth consecutive year the County of Lethbridge has won the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting.
The award, presented each year by the Government Financial Officer Association of the United States and Canada, was presented this month to the county for its 2009 Annual Report.
“It may seem like old hat that the county has been the recipient of this award for an unprecedented eighth consecutive year; however, it is an honour for not only the hard-working individuals who prepared the report, but also brings accolades to our organization as a whole,” said Reeve Lorne Hickey.
“We applaud the excellence demonstrated by our staff in winning this award.”
“Being accountable and transparent with the public purse is vitally important to all levels of government and this award reflects our commitment to these ideals.”
The 2009 Annual Report for the County of Lethbridge can be accessed on line through the county’s website at www.county.lethbridge.ab.ca and printed copies of the report are available at the county office in Lethbridge.
The annual financial report was judged by impartial Canadian Review Committee members and was deemed to have met the high standards of the Financial Reporting Program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” designed to clearly communicate the municipality’s financial story and to motivate potential users to read the report.
