It really doesn’t matter what this Christmas brings in the way of presents, I’ve already got my wish. In this same space last year I wrote about my father being diagnosed with cancer and hoping that I would get to spend another Christmas with him.

It’s light until 10 p.m., the daytime temperatures are inching into the 30s, and we’re more worried about West Nile disease than pneumonia. All this can only mean that it’s time for that annual ritual of tender torture otherwise known as the family vacation.
