Plan the work and work the plan seems to be the motto of the Village of Nobleford as it moves ahead with a project to spend $500,000 on upgrades to its recreation complex
. The project is one of several highlighted by the village council in a five-year plan, with funding presented last week by both the federal and provincial governments. MP Rick Casson was in Nobleford last Thursday to present $166,000 under the Recreation Canada Infrastructure Program while his provincial counterpart, MLA Barry McFarland, presented the village with $167,000 under Alberta’s Municipal Sustainability Initiative. “Receiving these funds will be a great help in upgrading our community centre facilities. This centre is the heart of activities in our village, and it is being used to near capacity,” said Mayor Paul Goldade. With the village matching the funding with an additional one-third the overall project will provide close to half a million dollars to cover installation of new windows, furnaces and air conditioning for the community centre. Upgrades will also include basketball backboards, gym and common area flooring, a curling rink walkway and a new public address system. Additional recreational enhancements for the village will include three new soccer fields, a splash park and a paved pathway. “That’s what we’re hear to talk about today, partnerships,” said Village CAO Kirk Hofman. He acknowledged Nobleford has put itself in a good position to work with both the provincial and federal government through a partnership approach. “It is involving all three levels of government,” said Casson. He added the project is just another step toward economic recovery in Canada with communities benefiting from projects funded by the government which in turn help keep Canadian’s employed. McFarland praised the co-operation between the provincial and federal government and also acknowledged the work Casson as done in the region. “You’ve just been a great guy to work with.” McFarland said he recalls sitting down with the village council as it outlined its five year plan and praised them for being organized and prepared to participate in grant programs. “These guys are tenacious and organized.” Hofman praised the town’s leadership and said Nobleford is fortunate to have strong leadership with Mayor Goldade. “We plan carefully. We always like to have the money in place before we begin a project,” said Goldade. “It’s a team thing with our council. It’s a team thing with our administration and staff.” |
