The Picture Butte Fish and Game caught two of its members by surprise Saturday night during its annual awards presentation. The club has two top secret awards it presents each year which are kept under wraps until they are presented at the annual Wild Game Supper. The remainder of the awards are based on trophy scoring as calculated at the club’s annual measuring night. Martin Oudshoorn was surprised when he was named winner of the annual Doug Black Memorial award presented to a club member who goes above and beyond for the club. Long time member Harold Dunn was shocked when he was presented with a Life Membership, one of only a few the club has handed out over the years. The Saturday evening supper and awards presentation were the 34th annual event for the club with tickets to the Wild Game Supper selling out in one day. The every popular supper menu attracts hunters, fisherman, photographers and fans of wild game. Top awards handed out during the evening included Grand Champion, Josh Richardson; Bow Hunter of the Year, Ryan Milan; Largest Animal taken with Bow, Travis Yunick; Rifle Hunter of the Year, Gary Kenna; Largest Animal taken with Rifle, Darren Gillies and the Joe Mrak Memorial Junior Hunter of the Year, Ryan Milan. The Eddy Stroeve Memorial Fishing Derby award for largest fish caught went to Kalin Marchuk. The club also recognized Carly Rae Caruso who was presented with the club sponsored Lil Kubik Memorial Picture Butte High School Scholarship at the June 2009 awards presentation at the high school. Individual trophy winners included Mike Davies with a first in adult rifle for Elk, with Jonathon Klok second and Mike Hofer in third. For Whitetail Richardson was first with Gillies second and Jim Van Bezooyen in third. For Mule deer Roger Sushelnitski was first with Anthony Caruso second and Kenna in third. For Antelope Kenna was first with Delin Watmough in second. Gillies took first in Big Horn Sheep with Ryan Chogi a close second. In youth rifle Brayden Van Bezooyen took first in Whitetail, Amanda Hofer was second and Keaton Chogi was third. In the archery category Yunick took first in Mule deer with Richardson in second and Chogi in third. In youth archery James Klok was first in Mule deer with Milan in second and Max Yunick in third. Milan took first in Whitetail. In the bird category Kevin Peake won Sharp Tail Grouse and Snow Goose while Harold Dunn won both the Partridge and Pheasant. In the fish category Len Chogi won Pike while Josh Richardson won Walleye. |
