As another school year drew to a close last month, Coalhurst High School handed out its awards for the years.
In the junior high Certificates of Merit were presented to Julianna Beer, Kyla Tutt and Hanna Duda for creative writing. To Jessica Watson, Andrea Heckley and Cassi Pierson for math.
For science the merit awards went to Beer, Jayden Cross, Tutt, Dylan Everson and Tyler Vos. The social studies awards went to Katelyn Harrold, Watson, Tutt, Whitney Haapala, Gideon Entz and Katherine Anderson-Bain.
Town of Coalhurst scholarships were presented to Akaysha Holt and Mackie Weiss-Higbee. Taking home the highest grade average for Grade 7 were both Beer and Watson. In Grade 8 the award went to Tutt and Pierson claimed the Grade 9 honour.
Watson also won the Jennifer Peters Memorial Scholarship while Haapala took the Coalhurst Ladies’ Auxiliary award. The junior high Citizenship award was presented to Amy Entz, Barbra Entz took the junior high 110 per cent award and the overall highest average award went to both Beer and Watson.
At the senior high level Helen Entz took the Language Art 30-1 award while Lydia Entz won the Language Art 30-2 award. The Pure Math 30 was won by Avril Wirzba and Brittany Beer took the Math 30 award. Helen Entz and Jamie Heckley both claimed the Math 31 award.
The Social Studies 30-1 award went to Helen Entz. the Social Studies 30-2 to Lydia Entz, the Physical Education 30 to Dylin Breeschooten and the Chemistry 30 to Wirzba and Heckley.
Evelyn Wipf took home the Work Experience award, Beer the Life Touch Scholarship and Breeschooten the Citizenship award. The 110 per cent award went to Helen Entz while the Town of Coalhurst scholarships went to Amanda Lenz and Wirzba.
Most Improved honours went to Aaron Lowe in Grade 10 and Heather Hughson in Grade 11. Most Improved Graduating Student was Megan Jackson.
Chelsea Astleford won the Lori Fekete Award for Creative Writing, Wirzba took home the Frank Fuller Scholarship and the Mayor’s community award went to Lydia Entz.
The Palliser A.T.A. award went to Heckley, the Outstanding Graduating Student was Kas MacMillan, the Jeff McLaren Award went to Lydia Entz and Robert Mercer won the Coalhurst Ladies’ Auxiliary award for senior high.
The highest average award for Grade 10 went to Naomi Entz, the Grade 11 award to Astleford and Wirzba and the Grade 12 award to Helen Entz. The senior high overall highest average was Naomi Entz while Helen Entz won the Governor General’s medal and MacMillian claimed the Roger Vander Linden Award.
Those honoured throughout the school year with Student of the Month awards included Haapala, Lenz, Tutt, Heckley, Watson, Kaitlyn McMitchell, Jake Entz, Mercer, Shelby Zmurchyk, Hughson, Amy Entz, Erick Ebner, Vos, Astleford, Weiss-Higbee, Anda Sabau, Keaton Meier, MacMillan, Jazlyn Tabachniuk and David Kastelic.
Creative awards were presented to Sarah Lenz and Mercer.
The junior high Athletes of the Year were Zmurchyk and Weiss-Higbee. Senior high Athletes of the Year were Helen Entz and MacMillan.
