As follows are the hockey results submitted to the News over the past week.
INITIATION: The Picture Butte Mighty Knights took to the ice on Saturday. They had a great game against the Coaldale Cobra 2. The game was all tied up after the first period but the Mighty Knights pulled ahead in the second. Picture Butte won the game 10-8. Aaron Molenaar, Tyler Maslen and Caden Heins all scored three goals. Ryan Holm was good for one.
NOVICE: The Picture Butte Elk Novice Broncos played host to two home games this weekend at the North County Recreation Complex. Friday they hosted the Kainai Little Chiefs and came up on the winning end. Anthony Mack played a great game in goal while Scott Oosterbroek had three goals and an assist to lead the scoring. Kalem Haney chipped in a pair and Sebastian Liska had a goal and three assists. Donovan McDowell, Jessie Heins and Carter Wobick added singles. Wobick, Heins, McDowell, Luke Loman, Victor Sagoan, Brayson Thompson all contributed with assists.
Saturday Picture Butte hosted the Magrath Chiefs. Magrath jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two periods, but the Broncos had a very strong third period and closed the gap to 4-2. The highlight of the game was Victor Sagoan’s first career goal that came on a shot from the point. Loman added a goal and an assist while Heins had a helper in a well played game by both teams.
The Coaldale Cobra Novice Team 1 played only a game this weekend. The Cobras traveled to Foremost. Derrien Tonin was the goal tender for this game. Scoring our only two goals were D.J.Tonin and Brendan Stewart. Assists were provided from Stewart and Easton Magarrell. Despite their efforts, the Cobras lost this game. The Cobras are looking forward to their next weekend of hockey.
ATOM: Saturday, the Picture Butte Atom B Cobras hosted the Warner Sabres in league play and defeated them 6-3. Landon Veluw and Jackson Liska each had a pair of goals while singles came from Reed Graham and C.J. Currie. Veluw contributed a pair of assists while Kevin Witdouck, Jared McCloud and Graham each added a single helper. Austin Maslen played a great game in goal.
The Coaldale Cobras Atom 2 Team did alot of traveling this last weekend and also exprienced a very tough weekend. Friday they traveled to Nanton for their second game in the Provincial “B” playoffs. Despite a strong start to the game the Cobras were not able to come out with the win and therefore their run came to a quick end. Then on Saturday they travelled to Redcliff for a league game where they also unsuccessful. The Cobras kept playing hard even though they were not on top on the scoreboard.
PEEWEE: The Berts AG Hawks were eliminated from the provincials last week they lost in Nanton 6-3 and in Picture Butte 7-0 the team from Nanton was a very strong team. The Hawks battled hard but came up short.
Sunday the Hawks won against Lethbridge Pythons by a score of 7-3. The game was very close until the third period when the Hawks came out and scored three unanswered goals. Eric Oosterbroek scored two goals and had three assists, Jesse Shoemaker with a goal and two assists, Eric Davies with two goals and two assists, Logan Middleton with two goals, Shaye Vavra-peacock with two assists and Dustin Fellger with one assist. Brett Oosterbroek played very strong in net.
BANTAM: The Picture Butte UFA Bantam Dragons played alot of hockey this past week. Thursday evening, they traveled to Black Diamond for their first round of provincial playdowns and defeated the hosts by 2-1. Curtis Elaschuk scored the first goal and blasted the second from the blue line which Braeson Schacher was able to tip in. Justin Fisher also got an assist. Denver Stronks played a strong game in net.
The return game was played Friday night in Lomond where the Dragons once again won by a score of 5-3. Points were spread out among the team with Jonah Wogsberg, Kalin Marchuk, Nathan deBoer, Ryan Nummi and Braeson Schacher all contributing a goal. Nummi and Cole Vavra-Peacock each added two assists while singles came from Fisher, Ryan Loman, Marchuk, and Kevin Veluw. Eric Schidmt also played a great game in goal to earn the win.
Saturday, the Dragons hosted the Irvine Bulldogs in league and won 11-1. Schacher had a hat trick, deBoer, Wogsberg and Reid Murray all added a pair of goals and Vavra-Peacock and Nummi chipped in singles. Schacher and deBoer each had three assists, Loman added a pair and singles came from Wogsberg, Murray, Riley Dooper,Brayden Chambers, Fisher and Nummi. Stronks earned the win in net.
In league play on Sunday, Pincher Creek took the win by a 6-2 score. Schacher scored the two goals with assists from deBoer and Elaschuk. Schmidt played a tough game in goal.
MIDGET: It was a good weekend for the Witdouck Farms Midget Mavericks. Friday they hosted the Cardston Thunder and came away with a 11-6 victory.  Scoring for the Mavericks was Dustin Gillies with three; Brandon Witdouck, Shawn Graham, Braden Shumaker each with two; and Casey West Tyler Lawrence with singles. Assists going to Gillies with four, Witdouck with two and singles going to Braden Deboer, Shumaker and Riley Vavra- Peacock. Saturday the Mavericks traveled to Pincher Creek and once again ending up with a win, 7-5.
Doing the scoring was Gillies and Witdouck with two each and singles coming from Shumaker, Graham and Lawrence. Assists were given to Vavra- Peacock with two and single helpers from Drew Smith, Deboer, Gillies, Witdouck, Shumaker and Graham.
