The Coaldale Copperheads hung on to third place this past weekend splitting two important interdivisional games.
Friday night the Copperheads headed to High River to take on the Flyers. The Coaldale crew blitzed the Flyers with four goals in the first period for an eventual 7-4 victory.
Coaldale native Aaron Adams led the Coaldale attack with two goals while Carter Little Shields, Ty Odland, Bryce Dagnone, Ethan Hendrick and Colby Murray all added one each. Danny Wilks turned aside 30 of 34 shots.
Saturday the Copperheads faced the division leading Okotoks Bisons and lost a 5-4 thriller before a near capacity crowd.
It was the first time for the hometown fans to see the latest edition to the Copperheads, 19 year old Dillon Houghton. Dillon, who played through the LAA system in Lethbridge spent last season in the B.C.J.H.L. (Junior A), and started this season with the High River Flyers before being signed by the Copperheads before the Jan. 10 deadline.
Dillon’s presence was immediately felt as the big blueliner scored a goal and punished an unlucky Bison for crashing the Copperheads net ending his night with a five minute fighting major.
Captain Devry Edmonds had a goal and two assists as did Darcy Osmond. Murray finished of the home town scoring for his team leading 24th of the season.Wilks put in another solid performance stopping 31 of 36 shots.
The Copperheads opened the new year with a loss to Didsbury 5-3 on Saturday,  Jan. 7.
Scoring for the Copperheads were Taber’s Clayton Tilleman with two and one from Lomand’s Colby Murray.
Local player Adam Weersink, a goalie, was recently called up to Junior A to play for Sherwood Park and had to be released by the Copperheads.
Next weekend is a three game road trip for the Copperheads as they face Stettler Friday night, Red Deer Saturday night and Ponoka Sunday afternoon.
