Picture Butte’s Sugar Queens racked up some impressive scores over the weekend to claim their home tournament championship title.
The Queens squared off against the Stirling Lakers in the final Saturday evening and took the win and the title by a score of 56-35.
The Queens dominated for most of the game and Megan Bezooyen led the scoring with 16 points followed by Caylee Vogel with 11 and Jasmine Bergen-Henengouwen with 11.
Leading the scoring for the Lakers was Kylie Mazutinec with eight.
The Queens advanced to the final after defeating Willow Creek in semi-final play Saturday afternoon by a score of 51-37.
Bergen-Henengouwen led the scoring for the Queens with 17 points with eight points each from Vogel and Bezooyen.
In first round action Friday evening the Queens defeated County Central 85-21 with Bezooyen leading Picture Butte with 22 points, Vogel with 12 and Bergen-Henengouwen with 11.
The only other local team in action at the tournament was Coaldale’s Kate Andrews Pride which captured the Consolation final by a score of 49-36 over Prairie Christian Academy.
Christine Boltezar led the Pride with 28 points while Myriah Marino added six in the win.
The Pride defeated Mathew Halton 65-55 in Saturday’s consolation semi-final play. Boltezar and Shaelynn Adams each had 14 points in the win and Jordan Unger had nine points.
The Pride lost 61-31 in the opening round Friday to Stirling. Scoring for Coaldale were Boltezar with 12 points, Adams with seven and Brooklyn Gathercole with six.
