|Top hunters recognized at annual Picture Butte awards|

It was a wild game kind of night in Picture Butte Saturday as local hunters and fisherman shared their catch and took home their awards.
The Picture Butte Fish and Game Association hosted its annual Wild Game Supper at the Elks Hall and capped off the evening with the presentation of trophies.
Top award winners for the evening included Ryan Chogi who captured Grand Champion with 89.54 per cent. Chogi also took home a number of other top awards including Bow Hunter of the Year with 122.76 points and Largest Animal Taken with a Bow.
Darren Gillies took the Riffle Hunter of the Year with 169.4 points and also claimed the Largest Animal Take with a Rifle with a score of 85.06 per cent.
Winners of the Joe Mrak Memorial awards were Brayden Van Bezooyen with 121.01 points for Junior Rifle Hunter of the Year and Jared Dyck with 82.07 points for Junior Bow Hunter of the Year.
The Eddy Stroeve Memorial Fishing Derby winner with the largest fish caught was Rylan Oudshoorn. The association also acknowledged the presentation of the Lil Kubik Memorial PBHS scholarship, presented in June of 2011, to Dallin Oliver.
The final major award of the evening was the Doug Black Memorial which was presented to Wayne and Elfriede Heighington for the amount of time they dedicate to the association particularly with the youth of the club.
Individual Big Game trophy winners announced during the evening included Justin Yunick who took first in Mule Deer with a 160.7 followed by Casey Simonsen in second with a 148.1 and Jim Van Bezooyen in third with a 138.3.
For Whitetail Darren Gillies was first with a 143.3 followed by Ryan Chogi with a 124 and Rod Peake with a 122.1. Tyler Bowes took the Elk award with a 223.5, Gillies took the Moose with a 165.7 and Chogi claimed the Bear award with a 15 and 5/16.
In the Junior Rifle division Madison Bowes with a 135.3 was first for Mule Deer with Donna Leusink in second with a 106. In Whitetail Brayden Van Bezooyen was first with a 126.3 and Dakota Reed was second with a 119.6.
Van Bezooyen also took first in Elk with a 175, Keaton Chogi was first in Bear with a 17 and 13/16 and Jared Dyck was first in Mountain Goat with a 42.
In the Adult Archery division Ryan Chogi was first in Mule deer with a 178.
In the Junior Archery division Jared Dyck was first in Mule deer with a 119 and Keaton Chogi also took a first with a 172.7.
In the bird and fish category Kevin Peake took the Mallard Duck award with 3.07 lbs. and the Pheasant award with 36 and 3/8. Rod Peake took the Snow Goose award with 5.96 lbs. while Mackenzie Yunick took the Canada Goose with 13 lbs. Ryan Chogi took the Wild Turkey award with nine inches and also won the Walleye award with a 6.035 kg catch.
In addition to hunting and fishing awards the association also recognizes photography achievement. First in Scenery was Liz Leusink who also took second place with John Yunick taking third. In the Activity category Delin Watmough was first, Holly Resster second and Leusink took a third.
In the Trophy category Donna Leusink was first while Tracy Reed took both second and third. In the Wildlife category Dakota Reed was first while Resster took both second and third. Each first place winner received a framed enlargement of their winning photograph.
