Coalhurst High School was the hub of basketball action over the weekend as the local Crusaders finished the weekend second place in the Roger Vander Linden Memorial Tournament.
The girls team hosted seven other teams from across the region and advanced to the final against the Stirling Lakers losing the game 73-43.
Coalhurst took their first game of the tournament Friday against the Kate Andrews Pride JV squad by a score of 52-47. Player of the Game for the Pride was Ashley Bodie while Coalhurst’s Player of the Game was Naomi Entz who also took home tournament all-star honours.
In Saturday’s action Coalhurst took on the Vauxhall Queens and won 52-39 to advance to the championship game. Player of the Game for Coalhurst was Emilee Storfie while Mikayla Virostek took the honour for Vauxhall.
In the Pride’s second game of the tournament the Coaldale team defeated Vulcan 57-26 with Sara Kloot named Player of the Game for the Pride.
The win advanced the Pride to the Consolation final where the lost 68-41 to Foremost and finished in sixth place in the tournament. Jordan Unger earned the Player of the Game award for Coaldale.
