Coalhurst’s Parks and Recreation Society is always committed to improving and developing new opportunities for community members.

Do you have a set of skills or talent that can be shared within the community of Coalhurst? If yes, join the upcoming project the Coalhurst Park and Recreation Society is hosting. The team is called “Learn from Your Neighbour” series. Some of the ideas include crochet, knitting, sugar cookie decorating and more.

Coalhurst’s Park and Rec group is having their first night Sept. 29 with local Metis neighbour Tara Rozalyn Froehlich, who will be showing participants how to make beaded earrings. There is a cost for this event and $5 from admission will be donated to the Residential School Survivors Fund, and the fee covers all supplies needed to make earrings.

According to the group, the goal is to look for Coalhurst community members who have a skill and/or talent to share with the community.

“We’re working with the Town of Coalhurst, and with this program, we’re looking at what our neighbours have with skills and passion and allowing them to share that with the community,” said Lyndsay Montina, president of the society.

Through parks and recreation, Montina noted, the society had a sub-community that came together. “What we decided to do was rather than having to offer programs with our small board, we thought we would look for community members who could provide us with some programming.”
