Coaldale and Picture Butte teams continue CAHL playoff competition

Coaldale’s U11 Tier 4 team picked up two big playoff wins on the weekend in Central Alberta Hockey League competition.

Saturday, Coaldale took out Vulcan 9-5, as Carter Vaselenak had three goals and one assist and Brodie McLaughlin scored twice and assisted on two others. Theo Barnendregt also had a big game with a goal and three helpers. Blake Gyorffy, Carter Davidson and Liam Waldner had one goal each, while Samuel Souter added an assist. MacKoy McDougall earned the win in net.

A day later, Coaldale topped Vulcan 9-2, thanks to hat tricks from McLaughlin and Colton Leuskink, who also added one assist. Gabriel Kenyon had a goal and an assist, Vaselenak picked up two assists and Gyorffy and Aurelia Skretting had one goal each. Davidson, Waldner and Dominic Thomas all had one assist. McDougall earned another victory in goal.

On Friday, Picture Butte’s Tier 4 U11 squad fell 10-7 to Vulcan, despite Isaiah Loewen’s hat trick. Beckem Van Diemen scored twice and Brigston Valle added two helpers. Brandon Faber and Willow Perrault also scored, as Sadie Pike and Kara Sterkenburg had one assist each. Bennett Howg was in goal for Butte.

Coaldale’s Tier 5 U11 team fell 10-1 in a Saturday game against Cardston, as Desmond Robinson had the lone goal, assisted by Kanon Maynes. Sadie Clark was in net for Coaldale.

Sunday’s game was closer, as Cardston emerged with a 7-5 win. Benik Odland scored twice for Coaldale, as Robinson, Mason Oliver and Ryeson Vanden Heyden scored one goal each. Torrin Croft added a helper.Clark played in goal for Coaldale. On the U13 front, Coaldale’s Tier 3 team fell 6-5 to Raymond in a

Friday contest, as Noah Clark had three assists, Lucas Kenyon scored twice and Asher Skretting assisted on two. Felix Parenteau, Greyson Weiss and Maddix Beekman scored one goal each, while Lukas Gyorffy, Kade Palidino, Levi Odenbach and Zander Jensen all added one assist each. Landon Scheit was in goal for Coaldale.

On Sunday, Coaldale fell 7-2 to Raymond. Clark had a goal and an assist and Kenyon also scored once. Jensen and Dacen Knoblich added single assists, as Scheit tended goal for Coaldale.

Picture Butte’s Tier 4 U13 team earned a 5-5 draw with Stettler on Saturday, thanks to an Arie Groeneboom hat trick. Nicholas Madsen added a goal and an assist, as Brance Van Nistelrooy and Kashin French added two assists each. Ryder Vandendool also scored. Humberto Garza Guerra made 22 saves.

On Sunday, Picture Butte picked up a big 10-1 over Oyen, as Brock Van Raay had three goals and two assists and Kashin French added two goals and three assists. Groenenboom had two goals and a helper and Rhys Mitchell scored once and assisted on two others. Van Nistelrooy had three assists, Madsen and Lucas Loewen had a goal and an assist each and three players, Vandendool, Ryder Norton and Julian Loewen, had one assist each. Garza Guerra made 20 saves in goal.

Coaldale’s U13 Tier 5 team dropped a 17-0 game on Saturday against Nanton, and then fell 13-3 to that same team in a Sunday game. Nash Flexhaug scored twice on Sunday as Jamison Klassen added a goal and an assist. Jackson Dubnyk and Aliya Rickaby had one assist each. Caden Thomsen was in goal for Coaldale.

In U15 play, Picture Butte’s Tier 3 team beat Okotoks 5-3 on Saturday, as Stryker Weasel Head had three goals and one assist. Oliver Sklarenko had two assists, Liam Campmans and Maddow Paskal had one goal each and Sage Campmans, Tony Dennay Devine Delaney and Brady Wasylowich added one helper each. Cale Campbell made 28 saves for the victory.

Butte then scored a 4-1 win over Chestermere on Sunday, as Weasel Head had a goal and two assists and Jiyaan Shah had a goal and two assists. Liam Campmans had the other goal. Campbell made 26 saves in net for Butte.

In U18 play, the Coaldale Tier 3 team beat Lethbridge 7-1 on Saturday, thanks to five goals from Lane Broderson. Jonah Hass had two goals and an assist, and single helpers were credited to Julian Calf Chief, Grady Knoblich, Caleb Klassen, Killian Erick, Hudson Adams, Beckham Sugai and Kade Van Buuren. Cashton Carriere made 21 saves in net.

Picture Butte’s U18 team fell 5-2 to Claresholm in a Friday contest, as Riley Van Zeggelaar and Walker Schooten scored. Brody Trotter, Jack Schneyder, Gracen Schooten and Justin Campmans had assists. Liam Slomp made 36 saves in net.

On Sunday, Picture Butte fell 6-5 to Claresholm, despite two goals from Walker Schooten. Van Zeggelaar had a goal and an assist and Trotter added two helpers. Campmans and Gracen Schooten also scored, as Logan Hebenik had one assist. Gavin Johnson made 42 saves.
