Seasonal road bans in Lethbridge County began March 6

Lethbridge County

Seasonal road bans will be issued on county paved and hard top roads starting Friday, March 6. Bans are put in place each spring to maintain the integrity of our road infrastructure as temperatures rise.

Lethbridge County has an extensive road and bridge network used by citizens, businesses and producers. Heavy truck traffic places a high demand on these roads, which are more susceptible to damage this time of year due to the frost thaw. This damage is expensive to repair and placing bans on vulnerable roads helps keep maintenance costs down.

Most hard top roads will be banned to 75 per cent loads (with some exceptions at 50 per cent and 90 per cent) as defined in the Alberta Commercial Vehicle Dimension and Weight Regulation. All gravel roads will remain at 100 per cent. Gravel roads and haul routes will be monitored as we progress through the spring season.

Heavy vehicle and equipment operators should be aware of affected roads and the maximum allowable weights. A full list of banned roads is available on our website.

Alberta Transportation manages provincial highways, and also issues bans on those roads. A list is available on the provincial website.

We thank road users for their cooperation in protecting our valuable transportation system this spring.
