Picture Butte High School is encouraging students from across the region, including those from the City of Lethbridge and Lethbridge County, to come out and try a trade during the Future Footsteps Expo on April 14, from 5 – 7 p.m.

The event is open to students in Grades 5 to 12 and is being held at Picture Butte High School. It includes a free supper from 5 – 6 p.m. with trade activities from 5:30 – 7 p.m. Students are encouraged to try several “5 minute trades” throughout the evening.

“It is open to all students from the area, including Lethbridge,” said Mark Lowe, Principal at Picture Butte High School. “(It’s) to allow students to interact with different trades to see if we can spark some interest in their future careers.”

Lowe said they aim to provide several trades for students to try and are involving the Picture Butte community in the two-hour event.

“The fire department is coming out (and will) be one of the trades showcased,” he said, noting they will be presenting a five-minute activity as part of expo.

In addition to fire fighting, some of the trades and related skills, students may learn about at the event include heating technician, plumber, well driller, mechanic, carpentry, electrician, equipment operator, crane operator and more.

“We are super excited to showcase all that is happening in our school and to spark the interest of our youth,” said Lowe.
