The Coaldale Public Library is calling all artists, creators, and craft-minded individuals to contribute to their annual Community Art Show this summer.

The Community Art Show, entitled “Community In Colour”, will be unveiled on Aug. 8, during Coaldale’s Summer Fest 2026 and runs from Aug. 8 to Sept. 24. It will feature two-dimensional artwork from both Coaldale and Lethbridge County residents, showcasing local creativity and talent in the community.

“It begins the first day of Summer Fest (on) Aug. 8,” said Stephanie Close, Assistant Librarian at the Coaldale Public Library. “We have opened it up to Coaldale and County residents of all ages. They’re welcome to enter one to two two-dimensional art pieces.”

Close noted the Community Art Show is an annual event, with a theme this year of “Preserving Our Stories Through Art”, which ties into the theme of this year’s Summer Fest – “Honouring Our Past, Building Our Future.”

“We are trying to keep that same theme,” said Close, noting submitted artwork could include a range of topics, such as outdoor scenes, people, animals, or favourite locations in Coaldale and Lethbridge County.

“It can be whatever they want. Our title “Community In Colour” is to pay tribute to how Coaldale has grown and how it is such a beautiful, multi-cultural town that has so much to offer,” she said. “Just seeing everybody’s creative genius is something that we’re really excited to do every year.”

Residents are invited to create artwork using watercolours, paint, pencils, pastels, digital art, collage, mixed media, or something completely unique.

The Community Art Show is free for residents to participate in, said Close, adding it’s a chance for the community to fill the library with creativity, colour, and community spirit.

Residents can drop off their artwork at the Coaldale Public Library. They are asking participants to submit entries by July 31, by emailing Close at sclose@coaldalelibrary.ca
