n August 25, 2026, the fields just north of Picture Butte will become more than a place of harvest. They will become a gathering place for neighbours, farmers, families, volunteers, and friends—people coming together with one common purpose – to help make a difference in the lives of others around the world.
The crop is pre-sold by generous farmers in the area who have overpaid commodity prices to lend a hand. Equipment work and chemicals are also generously donated from local farmers.
The Picture Butte and Area Food Grains Project, working with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, is a community effort built on a simple but powerful idea – Canadian farmers can grow a crop that helps feed people who are facing poverty, displacement, hunger, and difficult circumstances.
On August 25, beginning at 11 a.m., the community is invited to come out for the harvest. There will be a barbecue in the field, fellowship, and an opportunity to see firsthand how a local farming project can connect our community with people in need around the world.
Harvest Day Location:
-Four kilometres east of Picture Butte on Hwy 519 -One mile north of Prairie Hill Fruits/Devry Greenhouses
-Watch for the signs
Through Canadian Foodgrains Bank, projects like this help address the effects of world poverty and displacement while supporting communities in developing better agricultural practices. Farmers can receive assistance and knowledge to grow stronger crops, improve food security, and become more self-sustainable.
This is a great connection. A farmer in southern Alberta plants a seed, and through the generosity of a community, that seed can become hope for someone thousands of kilometres away.
The Picture Butte and Area Food Grains Project reminds us that when farmers, churches, businesses, volunteers, and neighbours work together, a field can become much more than a field—it can become an expression of compassion.
So come out on August 25. Enjoy a barbecue in the field, visit with friends and neighbours, watch the harvest, and celebrate what can happen when a community works together.
