The Coaldale Copperheads capped off another Heritage Junior Hockey League weekend with a 4-1 win over Rocky Mountain House on Sunday.
A day before, Coaldale fell 4-2 against Red Deer, as the Copperheads are now 12-7-1 on the season.
Against Red Deer, Coaldale came out strong in the first and led 1-0 after a Cohen Richardson goal, set up by Nathan Verloop and Brett Hudey.
Red Deer responded by scoring the first three goals of the second period, as the visitors built a 3-1 lead. Eric Price’s 10th goal of the season made it 3-2 after 20. Trey Schofield and Kobe Fujita had the assists on the powerplay marker.
Red Deer added an insurance goal in the third, as Coaldale could not get any closer.
Everett Hauck made 23 saves in the game, as Coaldale outshot Red Deer 29-27.
Sunday’s game was a dominant effort from start to finish, as Coaldale built a 4-0 lead and cruised home from there.
Drake Olineck opened the scoring with a goal assisted by BArrett Van Nistelrooy and Roan Crowe. Hudey made it 2-0 after 20 minutes, as Raider Peter and Lucas Alexander assisted on his marker.
Verloop had the only goal of the second, assisted by Berkley Emelson, before Crowe’s third-period goal extended the lead. Emelson and Brinley Degenstein had the assists.
Hauck made 23 saves in a winning effort, in a game that saw the Copperheads hold a 28-24 lead on the shot clock.
Now, the team looks to wrap up November on a winning note. Friday, Coaldale will head to Okotoks and on Saturday, the Copperheads will host Sylvan Lake for an 8 p.m, contest.
