Town of Coaldale
Some of the world’s top skateboarders are rolling into Coaldale to help celebrate the grand opening of the brand-new all-wheel Kinsmen Skatepark.
Fans will have the rare chance to see professional skaters Brandon Turner, Alexis Ramirez, and Kanten Russell showcase their skills live, bringing a pro-level spotlight to Coaldale’s newest recreational hub. Their performance will headline an afternoon filled with skate jams, music, and community celebration—cementing the grand opening as an event to remember.
The new skatepark, located at 2310 22nd Ave., in Coaldale. is the result of years of planning, community collaboration, and strong local partnerships. Valued at $1.2 million, the facility—designed by New Line Skateparks Inc.— features innovative concrete elements for skaters, scooters, and bikers of all ages and abilities.
Cultural design details that celebrate Coaldale’s history and an elevated platform that doubles as a performance stage make the park a true hub for both recreation and community gathering. The site has also been revitalized with a new basketball court and will soon include a brand-new playground.
The project was made possible thanks to the generous support of:
• $400,000 – Kinsmen Club of Coaldale
• $400,000 – Town of Coaldale
• $391,715.10 – Province of Alberta (Community Facility Enhancement Program, CFEP)
• $125,000 – Kinette Club of Coaldale (for the adjacent playground and basketball court)
• $75,000 – Coaldale Community Wellness Association
• $15,000 – Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta
The grand opening will take place on Saturday, September 20, from 3:00-6:00pm at 2310 22nd Avenue, Coaldale, and will feature:
• an official ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4:30 p.m.
• an all-ages skateboard jam with cash and prizes (hosted by Boarderline Skateshop)
• live music from DJ Archie (Applaud Entertainment)
• a free community barbecue hosted by the Kinsmen and Kinette Clubs of Coaldale
• a special performance from three professional skateboarders (Brandon Turner, Alexis Ramirez, and Kanten Russell).
“This project is about more than opening a skatepark—it’s about celebrating community,” said Town of Coaldale, Mayor Jack Van Rijn. “The Kinsmen All-Wheel Skatepark represents years of hard work, collaboration, and the belief that Coaldale deserves top-quality recreation spaces that bring people together.
“We’re inviting everyone to come out on September 20 to cut the ribbon with us, share some food and music, and enjoy an unforgettable afternoon of pro-level skateboarding right here in Coaldale,” Van Rijn added. “It’s going to be a special day, not just for skaters, but for families, youth, and residents of all ages who want to be part of this exciting moment in our community’s story.”
