Town of Coaldale

This Halloween, the Town of Coaldale will transform the former John Davidson School (2016 19 Street, Coaldale) into a one-of-a-kind Haunted School.

From Tuesday, October 28 to Thursday October 30, visitors to the school can choose two distinct walk-throughs under one roof – a kid-friendly side designed for families with younger children and a PG-13/mature side for those seeking bigger thrills.

On the kid friendly side of the school, visitors can expect to find playful décor and gentle surprises suitable for younger children. Meanwhile, on the PG-13 side the school, visitors can expect to find a darker, more intense walk-through complete with jump scares and eerie effects.

Dates and Times:

• Tuesday, October 28 — 6. to 8 p.m.

• Wednesday, October 29 — 6 to 8 p.m.

• Thursday, October 30 — 6 to 8 p.m.

Important Visitor Information:

• Admission: Free; donations to the Coaldale Food Bank are welcome.

• Duration: Expect 10–15 minutes inside.

• Effects: May include flashing lights, fog, and strobe effects (may affect those with photosensitive epilepsy).

• Supervision: Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult (16+).

• Facilities: The building has no heat or running water—dress warmly. Restrooms are available across the street at Civic Plaza.

• Parking: Available on the east and southeast sides of the building

The attraction will feature displays created by Creepy Hollow, the Town of Coaldale; the Kinette Club of Coaldale, FCSS, ATB, and the Coaldale Public Library. Sponsors of the attraction include the Kinsmen Club of Coaldale, North & Company LLP, ATB, and the Coaldale Chamber of Commerce.

“Halloween is all about bringing people together to have fun. And so traditionally, the Town has put on a Halloween Dance at the Gem of the West Museum,” said Town of Coaldale Mayor Jack Van Rijn. “But with the former John Davidson School now vacant—and Halloween landing on a Friday this year—we decided to change it up and do something a bit different. With a gentler, family-friendly route and a scarier PG-13 option, there’s something for everyone. Thanks to our partners and sponsors for helping us reimagine a favourite Coaldale tradition.”
