The Coaldale Copperheads offence continues to take the league by storm.
Saturday at home, the Copperheads put a converted touchdown on the board in a 7-0 beatdown of the High River Flyers.
Coaldale scored early and often, as the home side skated to the locker room with a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
Barrett Van Nistelrooy got the party started with an early goal, set up by Roan Crowe. Just over 30 seconds later, it was 2-0, as Lucas Alexander doubled the lead on a goal assisted by Dalton Damen and Spencer Talerico-Kucheran.
The dagger came with 21 seconds left in the period, as Cohen Richardson made it 3-0 for the Copperheads. Nathan Verloop and Griffin McCulloch had the helpers.
Coaldale scored three more times in the middle frame, as Caden Still scored Coaldale’s fourth and fifth goals. Richardson and Verloop assisted on both of those goals.
Verloop then scored a goal of his own, as Still and Talerico-Kucheran were credited with the assists.
Verloop added another marker in the third, this time assisted by Riley Preachuk and Brett Hudey, as the Copperheads coasted home for the victory.
Everett Hauck picked up the shutout in net, as he made 22 saves for the win.
Coaldale outshot High River 33-22, as the Copperheads went 0-3 on the powerplay. The Flyers could not convert any of the five powerplays handed out.
This coming weekend, the Copperheads head to Strathmore for a game on Halloween. Saturday, Okotoks will head to Coaldale for an 8 p.m. game.
The Copperheads now lead the South Division with an 8-3-1 record, good for 17 points. The Medicine Hat Cubs sit second with 15 points.
Coaldale also leads the entire league with 65 goals for this season.
