Copperheads action in the HJHL

Posted on October 6, 2015 by Sunny South News

Copperheads split games
Coaldale Copperheads, with two home games this past weekend, split the outcome for league play. The team’s HJHL record after the weekend is 2- 2 — last year at the beginning of the season they were 3-2, so very similar.
Friday night the squad had a strong overall game against Stettler winning 8-4.
Newcomer to the team this season Brady Parenteau from Lethbridge scored two goals earning that player of the game recognition.
Singles came from Connor Gross, Ashton Zintel, Matthew Nadeau, and Calvin Swanson.
A surprise addition to the Copperheads lineup Friday was a recent acquired player from Strathmore. Matt Thomson at 6-foot 2-inches is well-known to the HJHL and will provide some size to the Snakes’ roster. Thomson received his first Copperheads goal on his first debut in new jerseys.
Saturday night the team played host to the Mountain View Colts.
It was an evenly matched fast-paced game — back and forth, each taking the lead a few times throughout the sixty minutes. The final score was 7-5 for the Colts including an open net goal the last minute of play.
Two goals came from Calvin Swanson and singles from Austin Huculak, Ashton Zintel and Craig Lyon.
This coming weekend is an important three-game home stand during Thanksgiving. Saturday at 8:30 p.m. the Copperheads play Airdrie, Sunday, at the same time, against Okotoks — which both are first-time meetings for league play.
On Thanksgiving Monday, the Copperheads are featuring an afternoon game at 2 p.m. against Strathmore, who weeks ago the Snakes lost to 6-5. During all three games the team will be collecting non-perishable items for the Coaldale Food Bank.
Copperheads home for two more
Because of the Thanksgiving long weekend, the team suggests to check out their new website at http://www.coaldalecopperheads for updates on the Copperheads.
Coming up, the team has another two home games against top HJHl teams.
On Oct. 17, the Copperheads will be playing against the Three Hills Thrashers at 8:30 p.m.
The next day, the team will play host to Blackfalds Wranglers at 3:30 p.m.
According to the Copperheads — if fans recall, this is the team the Copperheads beat in the league final last season, so it should be an entertaining one.
