The Town of Coaldale is pleased to announce the reopening of its 2026 Rain Barrel Rebate Program.
Originally launched in 2024, the program provides residents with a 50 per cent rebate on the purchase of a rain barrel, up to a maximum of $50 per barrel. The program will remain open until October 1, 2026, or until a designated fund of $15,000 has been depleted.
“Rain barrels are one of the easiest ways residents can make a real dent in outdoor water use,” said Town of Coaldale Mayor Jack Van Rijn. “When you capture rainwater, you’re putting it to work—watering gardens and lawns without drawing from the treated system. Small actions like that add up across a community, especially during hot, dry stretches in southern Alberta. This rebate helps make it a little easier for households to get started, and it supports the broader goal of using water wisely year after year.”
Program Rules:
• There is a limit of one barrel per residence.
• Only rain barrels purchased after January 1, 2026, are eligible for this rebate.
• Rain barrel purchases made through classified ads are not eligible for this rebate.
• Rain barrel conversion kits are not eligible for this rebate.
• Other storage containers (totes, plastic garbage bins, etc.) are not eligible for this rebate.
• The program will remain open until October 1, 2026, or until a designated fund of $15,000 has been depleted.
• Rebates will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
Residents interested in applying for the rebate can submit their applications online at https://www.coaldale.ca/rain-barrel-rebate-program or in person at the town office. Rebates will be issued as a credit on residential utility bills, and both property owners and renters are eligible to apply. Proof of purchase in the form of a receipt is required.
