The Town of Coaldale has a new, updated Fees and Rates Bylaw.
Town of Coaldale Councillors approved first reading of Fees and Rates Bylaw 933-C-02-26 at the Feb. 23 regular council meeting and following a couple of minor changes, the bylaw was brought back to council for second and third readings at the April 7 regular council meeting, where it passed unanimously.
Tim Koba, Chief Financial Officer for the Town of Coaldale, presented details of the bylaw and noted the changes requested following first reading.
“There are two minor adjustments that were made since that meeting. One is to the adult team rate under Outdoor Sports and Fields – the amount should have (been) $393. 75 not $363.75,” said Koba. “The other adjustment was in the wording for curfews – beside (the word) child we just specified those under 18.”
For 2026, Administration reviewed the Town’s Fees and Rates Bylaw and proposed the following changes. They include:
– Removing FOIP to align with new legislation.
– two per cent inflationary cost across many fee areas.
– Updated animal licensing schedule integrating microchips and tattoos.
– Matched admission costs across all recreation facilities.
– five per cent on some recreational facilities that are in high demand.
– Remove facility booking fees from Civic Square and Gem of the West Museum.
– Small administrative changes.
Koba noted there were no other changes however, Administration will be reviewing Business Licence Fees, which will be reported to council at a later date.
Councillors briefly discussed the Fees and Rates Bylaw on April 7, and asked a couple of questions. Coun. Bill Chapman wanted to clarify cost for a season pass to the pool, and asked if it could be rounded down from $102 to $99, as an observation he made. He added that he was still speaking in support of the Fees and Rates Bylaw.
“That’s something we can look at in the future,” said Koba, noting they could look at what the final numbers look like after considering GST.
