Brothers Greg and Derek McKnight, owners of Storage Bros, will continue providing a positive customer experience and quality customer service in Coaldale, with the opening of two locations.
The brothers purchased Highway 3 Storage in Taber in 2023, their first storage location in Alberta, and recently purchased Coaldale Lo Cost Storage mini storage properties. With the change in ownership came the new name of Storage Bros, a local storage facility.
Coaldale’s two Storage Bros locations include one on 18 Ave. and one on 13 Street, which were purchased and opened in April 2026.
“Derek and I are brothers and that’s how the name was originated,” said Greg McKnight, noting they have been in business together for just over six years.
After their first business – an event rental company – was negatively impacted in 2020 by the pandemic lockdowns, the brothers have focused on growing Storage Bros, particularly in small towns. They currently own and operate storage facilities in 11 locations across Manitoba, Alberta and Northwestern Ontario.
Their success story in Alberta now includes locations in Taber, Sylvan Lake and Coaldale. The brothers welcome the opportunity to be part of the Coaldale business community.
“We came across a listing in 2020 when our other business shut down and we ended up being able to buy it from an owner who had built it about 10 years prior to that,” said Greg McKnight, noting the focus on the storage business allowed them to expand. “That was our primary focus, just trying to grow it. Since we started that was always the goal.”
With a desire to meet the needs of small towns, the brothers decided to open two Storage Bros locations in Coaldale.
“Coaldale was certainly a good fit with the Taber location, it’s just down the highway so it’s geographically close,” said McKnight, noting the proximity to the City of Lethbridge as well. “Coaldale specifically has a growing population, there’s a lot of investment in the town and in the region. There’s lots of development in the town, housing starts and lots of growth,” he added. “Those are things we like to see when we set up shop in a town.”
Having the two locations will allow them to continue helping Coaldale residents with their storage needs.
“We always aim to provide good customer service and a positive customer experience within any property that we own and operate,” said McKnight, pointing to some notable improvements at the Storage Bros locations in Coaldale, including the installation of HD security cameras at both locations and added lighting around the yard.
“The (location) on 13th Street wasn’t serviced by Fortis – we didn’t have any power so we serviced the lot …. we had a vision to improve the customer experience and some of the features that are associated with the property so that people have a better experience overall,” he added.
Storage Bros provides a variety of storage units that can be used for storing a variety of household items like furniture, appliances, boxes or bins, and include a variety of sizes such as 5×10, 10×10, 10×16 and 10×20.
Derek McKnight said they want Coaldale residents to know the great level of service and the reliable service they can expect from Storage Bros, along with a great overall experience at the two new Coaldale locations.
“We understand everyone’s needs are different in terms of what they’re looking for in storage,” said Derek McKnight. “I think we just want to give them the best experience possible.”
