When duty calls — local emergency services to the rescue

In an emergency, it’s safe to say local emergency services departments have got us covered. From first-response at MVCs and medical calls to fires (both rural and urban) — Lethbridge County-based emergency services departments are top-notch and deserve a salute each and every day.
Sure, it’s Fire Prevention Week and firefighters and first-responders get a little recognition for a job well done but the individuals making up a department are dedicated, unselfish, caring and sacrifice time and their lives (at times) to make sure residents are safe or are taken care of in any emergency.
The men and women on local emergency services departments, mostly volunteer, are on call and at the ready to head out when needed in extreme hot and cold weather, rain, snow and in high winds. Firefighters and first-response teams head into often unsafe and unpredictable scenarios on busy highways, and to burning buildings, cars or wildfires — day or night. They are often the first at the scene of a medical distress call or an accident. These are the men and women who are your neighbours, friends, family or co-workers. One minute they are at home with their family or out and about with a friend or are at work when duty calls.
Thank you for that.
From Coaldale to Picture Butte to Nobleford to Barons to Coalhurst — these emergency services departments are there when you need them — no questions asked.
This Fire Prevention Week take a moment to think about life without a local emergency services department. Take a minute to be grateful your community members have stepped up and made a commitment to keep their community safe and its residents out of harm’s way.
Thank them for the many days, nights, weekends and holidays they have given up to train, to be on call and to rush off to emergencies at any given moment in time. The Lethbridge County area has many local heroes. They are the men and women who selflessly joined their local emergency services departments to help out when called upon.
