Midnight Madness will be back in Picture Butte this Friday to help you with your holiday shopping.

In addition to plenty of local shopping to help you with your holiday shopping, the Picture Butte and District Chamber of Commerce event features several activities throughout the evening.

“It’s a nice community event,” said Annie Vander Veen, a chamber member and one of the Midnight Madness organizers. “The community really comes together, we really, really like it. It’s also a little giving back to the community. The town sponsors the ice time, all kinds of merchants sponsor different things too, like firewood, all kinds of things to make it possible. It’s a little bit of giving back to the community, and it’s lots of fun to shop at night.”

Hayrides will go from 7-8:30 p.m., starting at the gazebo, where hot dogs, hot chocolate and a fire pit will be there throughout the evening. Public skate will go at the North County Skating complex from 7:45-9:30 p.m., as well as on the outdoor rink, weather allowing. However, even if the weather doesn’t allow for ice skating outside, as a Chinook is expected, people can also take the time to do other activities activities such as floor hockey or basketball there.

“Its a wonderful place. It’s too bad that it’s not going to be freezing it hard, because they have lights, they have everything there.”

Rebo Syrup Waffles will be setting up a stall on Main Street, weather permitting.

After a brief hiatus due to rule changes from the AGLC last year, 50/50 tickets tickets are back, and are available only at G&E Insurance. Much like in prior years, the sale of the tickets will benefit the Picture Butte Firefighters.

“They always help us out with midnight madness, they do the hayrides and the fire pit,” said Vander Veen. “It’s always a good idea to donate to the firefighters. They always help us. We do not even consider anything else.”

Santa Claus will also be visiting G&E Insurance this year, taking time out of his busy pre-Christmas schedule to visit with the community’s children, hear from them what they want for Christmas and pose for some photos. He will be available from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Local businesses are asked to contribute an item to the community gift basket. Contributions can be dropped off at Kids Connections

Entry forms for the gift basket will be available in the opened stores, and Vander Veen said it is always “nice and big”.

Stores around town will be staying opening later, until 10 p.m. to midnight, depending on the store, and shoppers will be able to take advantage of some sweet deals.

“This is a great opportunity to shop local.”

Midnight Madness goes Friday, Nov. 22, from 6 p.m. to midnight in Picture Butte.
