Town of Coaldale’s deputy mayor Lisa Reis, recently announced her bid for re-election in the October 20, municipal election.
“I am excited to announce my candidacy for re-election for the Town of Coaldale council,” said Reis.
During her term on council, her pragmatic approach to decision-making, combined with her commitment to representing all residents, has cultivated trust within the community.
“I have been committed to listening, understanding, and addressing the concerns of our residents, which has translated into the pursuit of opportunities that not only highlight the partnerships between the town and our community; but ensures that Coaldale remains a welcoming, secure, and family-oriented community that offers diverse options and amenities for everyone,” said Reis.
Her ongoing commitment to serving as a strong advocate for each and every resident of Coaldale remains a central focus in all her efforts. Transparency and open communication will remain top priorities, fostering mutual respect for the aspirations of all residents.
“My dedication to diligently fulfilling my responsibilities to our community will never falter,” she added, noting as part of town council, the considerable progress they have achieved is a reflection of the belief and confidence residents have placed in them.
“I am grateful for this unified and collaborative council, chosen by you, the people. It inspires me to dedicate myself to fulfilling the promises I made over four years ago,” she said.
Council’s Key Accomplishments:
• Instrumental in the completion of the new Civic Square and outdoor Civic Plaza, which has significantly enhanced community events such as SummerFest and WinterFest. The atrium and outdoor space have become a central hub for events and help to foster community spirit. The popularity and success of the outdoor skating rink and community events continue to unite our town annually, strengthening community bonds.
• Public Safety: Successfully negotiated RCMP costs, leading to an Annual Funding Policing Equalization Grant, enabling Coaldale to receive a $550,000 annual grant, relieving the town of bearing 100% cost responsibility and looking to hire a 10th RCMP officer to enhance community safety.
• Health and Recreation: Reopened the ambulatory care clinic, completed the Shift Community Recreation Center, and implemented upgrades like new water slides at our public pool and a pergola for shade, upgrades to the skate park and adjacent playground are currently underway.
• Infrastructure Improvements: Launched the MPE Link Pathway, enhanced local parks and playgrounds, and upgraded the water reservoir & pump station to support growth for the next 25 years.
• Economic Development: Played a central role in attracting the NewCold storage facility, representing the largest investment in our town’s history, creating significant job opportunities.
• Housing and Development: Initiated the Malloy Landing Subdivision, providing diverse housing options for up to 1,500 residents. More housing options will soon be available in the new Canal Crossing subdivision, located near the Quads including road widening.
• 845 Developments Industrial Park – A 90 acre industrial park developed by local investors to meet ongoing demand. It will include direct access to Highway 845 via 12th avenue, offering a bypass to Highway 3.
• Healthcare Advocacy: Collaborated with neighbouring cities to enhance regional healthcare systems and actively engaged in physician recruitment to improve local services.
• Environmental Management: Broke ground on the Malloy Drain 2B Stormwater Management Project to enhance flood protection and manage stormwater sustainably.
• Coaldale is actively participating in the Alberta Government’s New Golf Cart Pilot project, to legally reinstate the golf cart bylaw that was rescinded due to non-compliance with Alberta’s Traffic Safety Act.
• Continued dedication to environmental sustainability, with a particular focus on low-impact practices and the cultivation of nature.
“As part of my ongoing commitment to fostering a transparent, inclusive, and dynamic community, I remain steadfast in fulfilling the promises I’ve made and continue to keep them a top priority,” said Reis. “I will continue to be a strong voice for each of our residents, and I invite the community to support my re-election. I am devoted to unwavering perseverance for Coaldale, with even greater achievements on the horizon.”
