The Town of Picture Butte will welcome municipal leaders from across the region on Wednesday, when it hosts one of the sessions for the 2025 Alberta Municipalities Summer Municipal Leaders’ Caucuses, taking place June 11 -26.

“It will be a great day and will be wonderful to catch up with all of our (municipal) friends from surrounding communities,” said Picture Butte Mayor Cathy Moore.

This summer, Alberta Municipalities is visiting four communities across the province including Picture Butte on June 11, Drumheller on June 12, Peace River on June 25 and Devon on June 26.

Each Caucus will consist of a one-day program with the same agenda at all four locations. The day-long event will run from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a variety of topics being discussed including municipal election resources, municipal financial research project, police governance and funding, the president’s report, and changes to the Municipal Government Act (MGA) and Local Authorities Election Act.

In addition, there will be opening remarks and a welcome from the mayor of the host municipality, Picture Butte Mayor Cathy Moore, and welcoming remarks from the host constituency’s MLA, who is Taber-Warner MLA Grant Hunter.

Moore said “it’s very important” that smaller communities like Picture Butte have the opportunity to host the Alberta Municipalities Summer Municipal Leaders’ Caucuses, which is being held at the Picture Butte Community Hall.

“Not every municipality has the opportunity to attend a convention because they are normally held in the bigger cities of Edmonton or Calgary. It gives us an opportunity to show off what Picture Butte has to offer,” said Moore, noting some of the topic discussions will cover a broad range of issues. “I am anticipating discussions on police governance and funding and how that will pertain to our smaller communities. Also discussion on the changes to the MGA and Local Authorities Act, and because there is an election coming up, I’m sure there will be some discussion on municipal election resources,” said Moore.
