The Town of Picture Butte is moving forward with an amendment bylaw that will re-designate lands on the municipality’s south side.
Picture Butte councillors passed first reading of Bylaw No. 962-25, an amendment to Land Use Bylaw No. 841-15, at the June 23 regular council meeting.
Town of Picture Butte council received a request to re-designate (or rezone) lands located at 105 5th Street South. The bylaw is to re-designate the land from ‘Residential – R1’ to ‘Residential Multi-Unit – R5’ to accommodate the development of a multi-unit dwelling.
The land being re-zoned is currently a vacant lot.
Picture Butte CAO Keith Davis said in a follow-up email that the “rezoning request is to change the zoning from Residential – R1 to Residential Multi Family – R5,”, and noted that “R5 zoning allows multi-units up to four units, row dwelling up to six units and semi-detached dwellings as permitted uses.”
The rezoning does not approve a development application to build multi-family dwellings but if approved, allows an individual to apply to do so through a development permit, Davis added.
Prior to second reading, there will be a public hearing on the proposed Bylaw No. 962-25 in the Town Of Picture Butte council chambers. The public hearing is scheduled for July 28, at 6:30 p.m.
Residents can request to speak at the public hearing or submit something in writing up to 4:00 p.m. on July 28. They can email Keith Davis, keith@picturebutte.ca or can call (403) 732-4555, during normal business hours.
