The Town of Coalhurst has announced that longtime resident and community leader, Barb Edgecombe-Green, has been named the Honourary Parade Marshal for the 2025 Miners Days Parade—a fitting tribute to a woman whose decades of service have shaped the town’s history and spirit.

Edgecombe-Green made history as Coalhurst’s first female mayor, serving from 1994 to 2004, during a time of major change and challenge. Alongside Council, she led the community through fiscal cutbacks, successfully negotiated the first annexation with Lethbridge County, and worked with the City of Lethbridge and the Water Commission to transition Coalhurst’s water supply after the devastating 1996 flood, resulting in the decommissioning of the river bottom water plant. She also pushed for highway safety improvements, securing longer run-in lanes to improve traffic safety at the intersection near town.

Edgecombe-Green’s leadership didn’t stop there. She also served nine years as a Councillor, before returning to Council by acclamation in both 2013 and 2017, and has remained active in the community between terms, serving on various Committees and Boards.

“Council is excited to announce Ms. Edgecombe-Green as this year’s Parade Marshal,” said Mayor Lyndsay Montina. “She has been a dedicated part of our community for many years and made history as the Town’s first female mayor. Her leadership broke barriers and set a powerful example for future generations. She continues to inspire us all through her unwavering commitment, compassion, and deep care for the people of Coalhurst.”

Before moving to Canada in 1971, Edgecombe-Green trained, taught, and supervised as a registered nurse and midwife in the UK. She continues to serve her community as a professional equestrian coach, teaching riders of all ages the art of horsemanship.

The public is encouraged to join together for the Miners Days Parade on Saturday, July 26 at 10:30 a.m. to congratulate Edgecombe-Green as she helps lead the procession.

The parade will begin at the corner of 55th Avenue and 6th Street, traveling south toward 51st Avenue (Main Street). It will then proceed down 51st Avenue before turning north onto 2nd Street, and then return to 55th Avenue. A map of the route is available below.

Prior to the parade, residents and visitors are also invited to join for the annual Town Council Pancake Breakfast, from 8 – 10 a.m. at the Coalhurst Community Centre (527 50 Avenue).
