Lethbridge County

Lethbridge County has lifted its fire advisory as of Aug. 5, due to recent cooler temperatures and precipitation that have decreased the wildfire risk.

Always use caution with fire-related activities, regardless of weather conditions, and apply for a burn permit before conducting open burns. They are free of charge and can be applied for online or in-person at the Lethbridge administration office (#100, 905 4 Avenue S.).

Burn permit holders may burn the following items:

Paper products, untreated wood (wood or wood products that do not contain preservatives), yard waste (grass/tree clippings, leaves, branches, fallen trees, brush, weeds, etc.) and straw and stubble.

These items cannot be burned at any time, even with a burn permit:

Wood or wood products that contain preservatives, plastic (including silage plastic, grain bags, and baler twine), rubber (including tires), animal manure or cadavers, waste material from construction sites (only untreated wood is permitted), pathological waste, and containers that have held chemicals or pesticides oil.

If unsure if a permit is required, visit the Lethbridge County website or call (403) 328-5525. Before burning, always check the website, http://www.lethcounty.ca to ensure there are no restrictions in place.

The county may issue a fire restriction or fire ban at any time if prolonged hot, dry conditions return. Stay updated by visiting the website http://www.lethcounty.ca   Facebook, X and Instagram or sign up for email alerts.
