Grant-funded LED retrofitting brings new light to County Administration Building

The Lethbridge County administration building has received a new LED lighting system, thanks to a grant from the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC).

By replacing the previous fluorescent/tube lighting, the LED system offers a wide range of operational, financial, and environmental benefits, including significant energy cost savings, reduced maintenance requirements, and improved overall energy efficiency.

“We’re grateful for the support from the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre, which made this retrofit possible,” says CAO Cole Beck. “By leveraging grant funding, we’re able to make smart upgrades that lower costs, improve energy efficiency, and support long-term sustainability in our organization.”

In total, 479 LED lights were installed throughout the building this fall, including offices, hallways, and meeting spaces.

The building also had 220 solar panels installed in 2018 to enhance energy efficiency and our environmental stewardship. That project was partially funded by the MCCAC.

The Municipal Climate Change Action Centre is a partnership of Alberta Municipalities, the Rural Municipalities of Alberta, and the Government of Alberta. Funding for the Community Energy Conservation Program was provided by the Government of Alberta.
