I was prompted to write this article of the upcoming Coaldale Centennial Homecoming on Aug 3rd and 4th.
Lydia and I lived in Coaldale for the past 36 years and feel we should contribute something for this great event. I remember when the old hospital was open I took Communion to the sick there and shut ins. Mrs. Pelletier used to say to me “Do you know my son, the priest?”. We prayed the Lord’s Prayer before giving her the Host.
Hyas Sask will be celebrating 100 Years Centennial also on Aug 3rd and 4th this year.
One hundred years reminded me of my mother who was born in 1895. She celebrated her Centennial in 1995. I composed the following poem entitled “Window From Heaven”., I often think of her.
It has been 21 years Mom, since the Lord took you away
I hardly cried at your funeral
‘cause I knew His love will never stray
We sang your praises and prayed all day long
And I knew the Lord kept us in touch –
From your Window in Heaven
You watched and interceded in prayer
To keep your children safe and in His care
When Mom was watching her children
From the window at home
She always knew in her heart
That the Lord was always there.
Now, that she is still watching and praying
Until it’s time for us to share God’s Blessings
And never be alone because we pray together.
