Pre-planned power outrages will take place in Coaldale as FortisAlberta completes much needed upgrades.

Starting this week, FortisAlberta will be replacing porcelain switches to a new style polymer switch. The older-style porcelain switches have been known to fail with age due to moisture getting in between the steel frame and porcelain and this can cause unexpected outages. Approximately 75 customers in town will be affected, and they will be notified 48-72 hours prior to the outage taking place, with the total project lasting approximately three weeks.

FortisAlberta’s manager of corporate communications and marketing, Alana Antonelli, said most of the outrages will last less than an hour, and will take place between 3-6 a.m. to minimize disruption when possible, and that any work that can safely be done ‘live,’ without needing to turn the power off, will be completed that way.

If customers have questions or would like to check to ensure that FortisAlberta has their correct information on file for the notification phone call, they can call the Customer Care Centre in Airdrie at 310-WIRE (9473). They can also visit our outage map at https://service.fortisalberta.com/ or the free FortisAlberta app and visit the section labeled “Planned Power Outages”, where they can zoom in and click on the hard hat symbols to get more information closer to the date of the outages.
