It’s been a long awaited announcement for the Town of Coaldale, after months and months of cancelled events due to the COVID- 19 pandemic. The Town of Coaldale is set to host its first-ever Celebrate Main event August 6-7.
Celebrate Main will kick off Aug. 6 and it’s a celebration for the community, and the event will kick off with a movie in the park on Friday night. It will continue through Saturday with many activities, including a pancake breakfast and petting zoos hosted by Coaldale and District Emergency Services (CDES) throughout the day on the Main Street of Coaldale. The town and CDES is planning the event to celebrate the new look of Main Street and to celebrate the new fire hall completed at the end of summer 2020.
From 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., a summer market will be held at the Curling Rink and it will also include wagon rides throughout the day – which will move right up until 10 p.m. with stage entertainment, and the Kinsmen Family Lounge will be open with family activities up and down Main Street. Since the start of COVID-19, many events had to be postponed around Alberta, just like Settler Days and Celebrate Main Street.
The community of Coaldale wanted to combine celebrations to get the community out to celebrate many of the new businesses within the community. “Without any of these volunteers, it wouldn’t be able to happen. It’s several people and a number of town departments coming together to put this on, and then, of course, we got volunteers helping out with a lot of these activities during the day,” noted Cindy Hoffman, from the Town of Coaldale.
Hoffman added the Kinsmen Club of Coaldale will be hosting the Family Lounge, which will feature stage performances, including live musicians from 8 a.m. to approximately 11 p.m. A complete list of deals and promotions for participating local businesses will become available closer to the event date, and the full schedule can be found at coaldale.ca/ celebratemain.
