Blades battle during CAHL tiering round

The tiering round for Central Alberta Hockey League continued this past weekend and Picture Butte Blade teams were back on the ice.

U11 Tier 4

The U11 Blades hosted a pair of home games this weekend as Pincher Creek and Brooks came to Picture Butte. Saturday saw Pincher in town and the visiting team was firing on all cylinders as they skated to a 13-2 win. Arie Groenenboom and Brance Van Nistelrooy had the Blade goals. Jace Realini was between the pipes for Picture Butte and the goalie was busy making 51 saves on 64 shots.

On Sunday, Brooks came to Butte and the visiting team was another tough challenge for the Blades. Brooks was able to secure a 10-4 win. Hunter French, Groenenboom, Nicolas Madsen, and Leonor Peralta had the Butte goals while Sawyer Gellrich and Van Nistelrooy had a single assist each. Realini was back in net and the goalie made 40 saves on 50 shots.

U13 Tier 4

It was a two-pack for the U13 Blades and the team was on the road for both. On Saturday, the Blades ran unto a buzzsaw as they faced Duchess. The home team scored early and often as they posted a 19-2 win over Butte. Reeve McLeod had both Blade goals and Isaiah Wiebe had an assist. Cale Campbell made 16 saves on 26 shots and Evan Bezooyen had 19 saves on 28 shots.

On Sunday, the Blades had a great bounce back as they took on Claresholm. The game was tied late and unfortunately, the home team was able to find a winning goal with three seconds left and the game ended 7-6. Wiebe had a goal and two assists in the game while McLeod had two goals, Liam Campmans and Mackaila Vandenberg had a goal and an assist, Ryder Johnson had a goal, and Quinn Byers, Matthew Van Zeggelaar, Jax Doucet, Maddox Paskal, and Sage Campmans all had a single assist. Bezooyen and Campbell were both back in the net as the pair split the game.

U15 Tier 3

Tons of goals were scored over the weekend for the U15 Blades as the team had a pair of home games. On Friday night, Fort Macleod came to town and the Blades raced to an early and never looked back as they won 11-0. Tanner Quinn had four snipes and an assist, Gracen Schooten had two goals and two assists, Luke Serfas and Abraham Gomez Ramos had a goal and an assist, Colton Van Rootselaar, Walker Schooten, and Justin Campmans had a single goal each, and Riley Van Zeggelaar, Brody Trotter, Logan Hebenik, and Malia Campmans all had an assist in the win. Gavin Johnson was perfect in net turning away all 23 shots.

On Saturday, the game was much closer between Butte and Bow Island/Foremost. While Butte held a three-goal lead in the third, the visiting team was able to cut that down to one with two minutes and 46 seconds left to play. The Blades though would hold on and take a 6-5 win on home ice. Grace Schooten had a pair of goals and an assist in the game while Zarah Vincennes had two assists, Van Zeggelaar, Walker Schooten, Serfas, and Hebenik had a goal each, and Malia Campmans had an assist. Liam Slomp was in net for Butte and the netminder made 44 saves on 49 shots.
