The Town of Coalhurst has launched the feedback gathering stage of their Recreation Master Plan.

Once approved, the master plan will influence the direction of recreation and parks opportunities and services within the town for at least the next 10 years. An engagement plan for the process was approved during council’s regular March 19 meeting.

“Having community members involved in the process to build a Recreation Master Plan is critical to its success,” said Coalhurst Mayor Lyndsay Montina in a press release. “We want to hear how residents currently spend their time in the community, what their vision is for recreation in the future, and what we could do to achieve that vision.”

The Town is seeking feedback on what residents would like to see in the plan and what direction it should take. Residents can provide feedback and participate in two ways.

The first way is by answering a public survey. Residents will be mailed a QR code with a direct link to the online survey, or they can visit the town’s website to view it. Paper copies of the survey are also available at the town office for pick up during regular business hours. Residents are urged to respond to the survey sooner then later, as it will close at midnight on Wednesday, May 2024.

The second way is through a public forum. Three open house sessions will take place later this month on the Recreation Master Plan.

One open house will be focused on youth ages 11-17, taking place Friday, April 19, between 2-4 p.m. at the Coalhurst Community Centre.

The other two open houses will be for the general public, and will go Friday, April 19, between 6-8 p.m., and Saturday, April 20, between 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Coalhurst Community Centre. Beverages and children’s activities will be provided during the open houses.

“By having residents involved in the planning process, Council will be better informed when it comes time to make decisions about what types of projects to pursue and how those projects may be funded.”
