The Town of Nobleford’s new office is open and Joseph Hutter, CAO, is here to talk about what’s inside.
“The new office features Council chambers, improved storage, a large reception area with wheelchair accessibility, and a conference room that will be available to the public for rent. In addition, the office features a room that will be rented by FCSS to provide programming to Nobleford and area residents,” he says.
While the previous office saw a lot of action during its time, Hutter explains that the Town outgrew the space, became dated, and chambers was not accessible.
“The old office building was 82 years old and had previously been outfitted to serve its purpose as a municipal building,” he adds. “The Town currently shares the building with the museum, and very few upgrades, if any, were performed on the Town office portion of the building in the last 15-20 years.”
What does he like about the new space?
“To me, the highlight of the new office is the Council chambers. For the past four years, Council meetings have been held offsite in the upstairs meeting room of the Community Complex. Having chambers within the Town office improves accessibility to the public and is very convenient for staff and Council alike. I believe that the location of the building (corner of Highway Avenue and King Street beside the post office) provides a convenient location for residents to visit the office. More importantly, the accessibility of the building for residents paying bills, making general enquiries, and attending Council meetings is vastly improved.”
However, the old building will be fondly remembered.
“There is always some nostalgia associated with a building that you had previously worked in, but the new office is a significant improvement in terms of utility, and both staff and Council are very excited about the move,” Hutter concludes.
