Coalhurst Cares contest recognizes contributions by local volunteers

The Town of Coalhurst is making sure their community volunteers know how much they are appreciated. 

They will be recognized for their time, hard work, and efforts to make Coalhurst a better place during National Volunteer Week, April 19-25. 

The Town is inviting residents to nominate a volunteer for recognition in the Coalhurst Cares contest. Coalhurst Cares is a new initiative this year, created to inspire Coalhurst residents to nominate their fellow residents who give their heart, time and talent to the community. 

“Volunteering is part of the culture in Coalhurst. It’s neighbours helping neighbours and people taking pride in where they live,” said Coalhurst Mayor Deb Florence. “Coalhurst Cares is about recognizing those every day contributions and giving residents a chance to nominate someone who’s made a difference.” 

Coalhurst volunteers of all ages and from all areas of community life may be nominated, including those who support local organizations, events, programs, neighbourhoods, and quiet acts of service that help make a difference.

In addition, the town is recognizing the many local organizations who do amazing work. The town aims to connect with each of them individually over the coming weeks, to share their appreciation for these organization’s contributions to the Coalhurst community.  

In a press release, the town also noted many more individuals who step up, who may not be part of a group or organization. Through these nominations, they hope to empower residents to recognize fellow residents who go above and beyond, and for those who are nominated, to know their acts of service are deeply appreciated and do not go unnoticed. 

The Town of Coalhurst has already received several nominations and hope to see more before the April 19 deadline. 

“During National Volunteer Week, it’s an opportunity for us to highlight those individuals and remind people that even small acts of service have a big impact,” said Florence.  

Although the town is not holding a volunteer appreciation event, everyone who is nominated will receive recognition and three nominated volunteers will be selected by a random draw to receive a prize basket.

Those wishing to nominate a Coalhurst resident, must provide their name and contact information, the nominee’s name, a brief description of how they volunteer and why they are being nominated.
