The St. Joseph’s junior girls Jaguars basketball team have won the County of Lethbridge Junior High Athletic Association’s (COLJHAA) league title and added another Champions banner to the school’s collection. Eight teams played in the JV tournament in Vulcan Feb. 4.
The Jaguars JV girls team consists of players from Grade 6-8, four of which also play on the school’s senior team. Coach Linda Baron said St. Joseph’s is a bit unique in that many of the other junior teams are made up of students in grades 7 and 8, noting St. Joseph’s, “is one of the few schools that have grade 6 students.”
Since Baron began coaching in 2010 the junior and senior teams have won 12 banners. After COVID put a halt to most in-person extracurriculars, Baron said, “we’re kind of rebuilding again,” and added the recent win, “was very exciting for the girls.”
St. Joseph’s also played in the Jr Girls SV – COLJHAA Championship in Coalhurst over the weekend.
