The regular season has come to an end for the Prairie Winds Wild in the Alberta Premier Baseball League.
Last Wednesday, the Coaldale outfit split two games – an 8-6 victory over Magrath and a 9-6 loss to Lethbridge’s Chinook Coyotes.
In the win, the Wild fought back from a 3-1 first-inning deficit, as Prairie Winds scored four times in the top of the third and once in the fifth to take a 6-3 lead.
After the Coyotes tied the game with two in the bottom of the sixth, Coaldale responded with two in the top of the eighth to earn the win.
Grady Knoblich led the two hits, three RBI and run
scored, while Nolan Honess drew three walks and
scored three times. Kade Hamilton also had a big day, as he picked up two hits, a walk, one RBI and a run scored.
Tyson Feyter worked six innings and gave up five earned runs on seven hits and a walk, He also struck out three. Hamilton threw two innings, and pitched around five walks, as he struck out four and did not allow a hit or a run.
In the Chinook game, it was a tight battle most of the way, as the Coyotes led 4-3 after four innings. Chinook took control with three in the sixth and two more in the seventh, before Prairie Winds rallied for two in the bottom of the seventh to make it more interesting.
Feyter had a big game at the dish with four hits, two RBI and two runs scored. Knoblich had a hit and drove in two, while Hamilton and Eric Stotyn each had a hit and one RBI. Logan Ress collected two hits as well.
Oz Hiscox pitched five and one third innings, and gave up six earned on eight hits, three walks and three strikeouts. Nolan Honess worked an inning and gave up two runs on two hits and three walks. Ethan VanSluys pitched two thirds of an inning and didn’t allow a hit or a run, as he walked one and struck out one.
On Monday, the Wild kicked off the APBL playoffs with a game against Lethbridge Collegiate Institute. The score was not available at press time.
