Seniors’ Week 2021

Each year, we declare the first full week of June as Seniors’Week in Alberta. It is a grand Alberta tradition dating back 35 years.

This year, Seniors’ Week kicks off June 7 and continues through June 13.

Seniors’ Week is our opportunity to recognize and celebrate seniors and their enormous contributions to our families, communities and our province. Seniors built Alberta, and we owe them so much. Seniors matter in our lives each and every day. They are not only our parents or grandparents, but they are also mentors, friends, volunteers, colleagues at work and a kind and considerate boss.

We know seniors are working longer, devoting more hours to volunteer pursuits and continuing to make significant contributions to the success of our province.

Alberta seniors are diverse. Many arrived here from all over the world, eager to start new lives. And, we know they are resilient. During the pandemic, they came together to support each other, their families and their communities.

We have lost too many seniors this past year, and I send my sympathies to families and friends who mourn a loved one.

All Albertans are eager to celebrate and recognize seniors, and we will do so safely and according to public health guidelines.

As we start to see the end of the pandemic, I would like to acknowledge the many seniors who have endured this difficult time with grace and fortitude. Seniors are the strength of Alberta.

Please take a moment to recognize and say thank you to the seniors in your life, who live on your block, in your community and across our province.

Happy Seniors’Week to all seniors.
