Coaldale resident ordained priest will celebrate his first Mass

Posted on June 27, 2018 by Sunny South News

My wife and I met the Remus family about 20 years ago. We used to invite them for birthdays and Christmas functions.

Derek used to play the piano on Thursday morning Mass for the Class that came to the church and we would sing the songs. He also used to help me incense for Adoration on First Fridays. Ed,  the sacristan,  would prepare the incense. We sang the songs for the Mass and Adoration. Father Tito,  the Parish Priest then, kept an all day Adoration where people would attend every hour. Derek travelled to Peru on a mission,  and theological studies in California. He spent the remaining years at the Seminary in the Diocese of Edmonton.

Derek was well educated and a great speaker. He won awards from the Knights of Columbus. After spending seven years studying  theology as a Roman Catholic Seminarian, Bishop William McGrattan will ordain him as a priest on June 29th at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Calgary, AB. He will celebrate his first Mass in Coaldale on Sunday,  July 1, 2018 at  9:00am at St. Ambrose Church. Everybody Welcome!!  From this moment on we will address him as  Father Derek Remus.  We pray he stays a priest forever like Melchizedek of old. (Genesis chapter 14,  Verse 18-20). God’s Blessings Always.
