Donald Trump, the unpredictable president

Dear Editor:

On August 26, 2026 President Donald Trump walked away from the bargaining table with CUSMA, the free trade agreement. He claims that Lake Ontario should be renamed Lake America because of his grievances with Canada, particularly with Prime Minister Mark Carney. 

I have done some fact checking and found that Lake Ontario was discovered in 1615 by Samuel de Champlain and was named after the Iroquoian word meaning “Lake of shining waters or beautiful lake”. The name Ontario was settled around 1733. The lake has been significant in trade and development particularly during the French and Indian wars and the fur trade.

Everyday when we turn on the news on TV Trump has something bad to say about Canada. When he took office in his first term, he was found standing on the street in front of his church holding a Bible upside down. The trouble began during the January 6th riot with the “Proud Boys” and continued ever since. During his second term in office as President of the United States his administration made a lot of changes and Canadians refused to visit the United States for fear of getting arrested by ICE and taken to prison for no reason, among other things. The reason Trump started the Iranian War was because he was afraid that Congress will open the Epstein files and so took their mind off this event.

At one time Trump indicated he will run a third term, but his rating has gone down so badly, and his chosen candidates have been losing with only two months left to win the primary, that he changed his plan. We hope when he is ousted out of office he might change for the better and become empathetic and commit to reading the Bible daily.

President Trump, in all of history, is the only one who associated with Putin, the dictator of Russia. This is why he has not committed to allow Ukraine to build their own blueprint of nuclear arms and defend their country from the continued assault from Russia. Perhaps when the US government change  hands for the better, the war between Russia and Ukraine will finally be over. Thanks be to God.
