Picture Butte Community Centre on the mend

Posted on April 1, 2014 by Sunny South News

As Town of Picture Butte Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Mike Derricott said during his report to town council Mar. 24 on the state of the Picture Butte Community Centre closure due to recent water damage from snow melting — “Seniors love that place dearly.”

A true sentiment regarding the beloved community centre, which will reopen once work is completed to repair damages.

To make a long story short — a drainage pipe in the lobby of the community centre fell out of the ceiling during the recent snow melt, after the drain poured into the ceiling.

“It did a number on the ceiling and the drywall and the floor,” said Derricott, adding the matter is being remediated through an insurance claim.

“Because of the location and the extent of the damage we made the decision to just close the facility,” he said.

Derricott noted the initial target date for the completion of the repairs was Apr. 1 but the work will take a few more weeks to get the community centre up and running.

“It will be reopened as soon as it’s ready to go,” said Derricott.
