On Feb. 3, at approximately 6:35 p.m., Lethbridge Regional Police Service (LRPS) responded to a collision on Highway 845, just north of Highway 3, in Coaldale.
Investigation revealed a southbound tractor trailer unit was struck by a westbound train. The vehicle and railway traffic was stopped for approximately two hours. No injuries resulted from the collision. The tractor trailer unit was empty at the time but sustained extensive damage to one of its trailers. The train was transporting ninety-six grain cars and suffered minimal damage.
The driver of the tractor trailer unit, a 65-year-old male from Lawtonia, SK., was charged with failing to proceed through a railway crossing in safety after stopping.
